Serial Entrepreneur speaks at Lakeside Business Briefing

7 June 2010

Life as a serial entrepreneur was on the agenda at the latest Lakeside Business Briefing in May, when guest speaker Sir Peter Michael spoke about his experiences, linking the diverse worlds of electronics, broadcasting, Californian wines and commercial property.

Best known as a founder of Classic FM, where he was Chairman until 2008, Sir Peter made his fortune in electronics, founding the Micro Consultants Group and Quantel, before turning round Cray Electronics.

A passionate interest in fine wines encouraged him to establish his own vineyard in the Sonoma Valley, California, where the Peter Michael Winery has been producing hand-crafted wines since 1987. Among his many other interests, Sir Peter is also chairman of property fund manager, Highcross and the owner of The Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury and Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa.

He spoke about some of the inspirations that have influenced his career, including the early Silicon Valley entrepreneurs; the excitement of being involved in the launch and development of Classic FM and the challenges facing would-be entrepreneurs.

The Lakeside business briefings are sponsored by 1000 Lakeside, Vail Williams, Handelsbanken and Verisona. The next Lakeside business briefing will be on 7 September when the speaker will be quadriplegic yachtsman, Geoff Holt.
